Playful little peccaries

Our young white-lipped peccaries are keeping the rest of the group on their toes. The babies, the youngest of whom were born about a month ago, spend their days scampering around and playing with one another – and sometimes teasing the older animals, too.

In their natural habitat, white-lipped peccaries live in large groups to help deter enemies like cougars and jaguars. And for extra protection, these ungulates are equipped with the kind of strong jaws and teeth you would usually associate with predatory animals.
