Successful reintroduction of Przewalski’s horses

Przewalski’s are the only true wild horses alive today. In the 1960s, they were considered extinct in the wild.

But these beautiful animals are now making a comeback thanks to numerous breeding and reintroduction projects – some of which are coordinated by the International Takhi Group, which is supported by Zoo and Tierpark Berlin, among others.

In the meantime, the horse’s numbers in the Great Gobi B have reached a record high of 349 individuals – and the population continues to grow. Last year alone, 70 foals were born in the reserve. The reintroduction of the Przewalski’s horse is one of the most successful species conservation efforts ever coordinated by zoos.
