Rhino Pagoda

The impressive sight of the 25-metre tower draws attention even from a distance, while the inside of the new animal house provides answers to questions such as: What are the consequences of biodiversity loss? Are there still glimmers of hope? And how can I make my own contribution to species conservation?

Architecturally, the Rhino Pagoda is a sophisticated, modern homage to the historic buildings of Zoo Berlin. With a soft red façade reminiscent of the evening sun in India, this towering monument to species conservation is intended to catch the eye and pique the curiosity of those passing through Zoo station. Around the Pagoda, Greater one-horned Rhinoceroses, lowland tapirs and Visayan warty pigs graze peacefully in the shade of centuries-old trees, amidst idyllic watercourses and tall grasses that evoke their swampy habitat in the wild. This impressive new animal house is also the first to allow visitors to watch these two-tonne rhinoceroses bathing underwater!

    It's time to act

Inside the Pagoda, visitors can learn about the importance of biodiversity in general, with a focus on the plight of the threatened Greater one-horned Rhinoceroses. They can also find out how Zoo Berlin is committed to protecting these fascinating heavyweights in their home country.
