UPDATE NO. 3 FROM SUPPORT UKRAINE

Last night, zoo staff in Kyiv unfortunately had to spend the night in a bunker. Director Kirill Trantin had this to say this morning: “We are carrying on, continuing to fulfil our duties and simply doing the best we can.”

Today a lorry is leaving Germany for various zoos in Ukraine loaded with almost 20,000 kg of animal feed provided by Zoo Berlin and its generous donors. Thanks to the numerous donations, we were able to send aid that includes 1,125 kg of rhino food, 750 kg of zebra food, 900 kg of primate food and 1,225 kg of giraffe food. With the help of our Polish colleagues and a haulier in Ukraine, the delivery should arrive at its various destinations by Wednesday. Again, we would like to thank you– also on behalf of the zoo staff in Ukraine – for the incredible level of support you have shown.

Further deliveries, including urgently needed medical supplies, are to follow shortly. We are looking into all the ways in which we may be able to support zoo staff in the war zone and are continuing to appeal for donations.
