Springing into action

Wolves, free-flight shows, dinos and more – a new season begins at Zoo and Tierpark Berlin

The clocks have gone forward, Easter is just around the corner, and the first spring babies are happily gambolling over fresh new grass – all of which signals the start of the peak season at Zoo and Tierpark Berlin.

A few new arrivals have moved to Berlin just in time for the Easter holidays: a pack of Eurasian wolves are sniffing out their territory at the Zoo, while the two Rothschild giraffes Maud and Katharina are getting to know their new herd at the Tierpark. And barely had the first warm rays of sunshine pierced the clouds before Sumatran tiger twins Lotte and Luise were romping around outside, enjoying the fresh air. The takins, goats, peccaries and sheep have already welcomed new babies, who are now curiously exploring their surroundings in the early-spring sunshine. From 1 April, the popular free-flight show at the Tierpark will start up again after the winter break, the electric train will be running once more, taking Tierpark visitors through the extensive grounds, and the commentated feeding sessions for pelicans, gibbons and red pandas will recommence. Zoo and Tierpark Director Dr Andreas Knieriem reveals another special highlight for the Easter holidays: “On Friday 31 March, we will finally open our dino exhibition here at the Tierpark – complete with T. rex, Brachiosaurus, and many other primeval giants. The biggest-ever new arrivals at the Tierpark do not require any food and will be on view to visitors in picture-perfect poses from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.” Admission to the Dinoworld exhibition is included in the price of a regular ticket. There is also a special day ticket for dino fans that includes an exciting and informative dinosaur magazine. The magazine was designed by the Tierpark team exclusively for the new exhibition and includes exciting puzzles and fascinating facts – giving dinosaur fans of all ages an even more immersive experience. The limited “Dino tickets” are already available for pre-booking at shop.tierpark-berlin.de.

A hot tip for all those who are still looking for ways to entertain the kids over the Easter holidays: Zoo and Tierpark Berlin offer holiday programmes for younger visitors, with experienced guides ready to provide plenty of fun, excitement and fascinating stories from the world of animals. Who are the most skilled climbers among the Tierpark’s inhabitants? Which Zoo resident has the thickest fur? Why are some species threatened with extinction and how can we help them? Who are the biggest (Easter) egg lovers in the animal kingdom? And to mark the return of the dinosaurs at the Tierpark, dino fans can embark on a brand-new Dino Discovery Day and learn all about the prehistoric giants.
