Snow shoes

Red pandas have thick layers of hair on the soles of their feet. This not only helps to keep their paws warm when they walk over ice and snow, it also gives them excellent grip – which is very helpful when you have to clamber along damp, slippery branches.

Our two high-climbers are some of the first residents to move into our new-and-improved predator house, the “Empire of Cats”, which is scheduled to open next spring. Visitors can already watch Maurice and Tabea enjoying their outdoor habitat, located just opposite the Chinese Pavilion.
