Cheers to penguins!

For today's World-Penguin-Day, we have a romantic snapshot of our African penguins for you.

As you can see, penguins are extremely sociable animals. Penguin pairs often stay together for life. And that means teamwork: they take turns incubating in shifts for around six weeks. And they also stick together as a group: Penguins breed in colonies and forage together. This way, the little animals are better protected from predators.

Unfortunately, many penguin species are now considered endangered. In the last 100 years, the number of African penguins has shrunk by around 90 percent. One of the reasons for this is overfishing of the oceans.
