Seals & penguins

There’s always plenty going on in Zoo Berlin’s rocky coastal habitats. Take a trip to the seaside with our seals and penguins: watch the agile animals dart through the water and let the sound of lapping waves bring back fond holiday memories. On land, the cute critters’ less graceful attempts to get around capture the hearts of visitors.

Above this flurry of activity, you can regularly hear the call of the California sea lions. Even outside the regular training sessions with their animal keepers, they delight visitors with impressive underwater acrobatics. Just next door, visitors enter one of the coldest places in Berlin: Penguin World. Here, snow falls year round – much to the delight of the resident king and rockhopper penguins. For them, a water temperature of no more than eight degrees Celsius is perfect for a swim!
