Species Conservation at Zoo Berlin

The earth was once a place of biodiversity and multifaceted life. However, many plant and animal species are endangered in the wild – and the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List is getting longer each year. Poaching, habitat destruction and water pollution are just some of the causes of species extinction, for which man is predominantly responsible. Zoo Berlin has for many years now been breeding endangered species in order to secure their long-term survival. The best case scenario would see us reintroducing and settling them into the wild in suitable habitats.
