Pavilion taking shape
The replica of a Chinese music pavilion, from which visitors will be able to observe female panda Meng Meng in her outdoor habitat, is rapidly taking shape. The bright red building is clearly visible from the entrance to the Panda Plaza and from the Elephant Gate, and fits in well with their colour scheme and appearance.
The dragon is in the details
The green roof of the entrance to the Panda Garden also reflects the Chinese architecture of the Elephant Gate. The shape and colour of the clay tiles recall thick bamboo canes, and the roof crest features a dragon design – more evidence, if any were needed, of the loving detail that has gone into construction of the Panda Garden.
The two climbing areas for Meng Meng and Jiao Qing are also almost ready. These will keep boredom at bay for our new panda residents and create another highlight for visitors. Children might get a bit jealous that they can’t have a go themselves though!
