A little bit of China in the heart of Berlin

Zoo Berlin’s Panda Garden provides a new oriental oasis in Berlin. Last week, the imposing red portal was finally erected in the style of a traditional Chinese pagoda. Upon passing through the gate and crossing the stone bridge, visitors enter the heart of the complex – the Panda Plaza. As it makes up the bulk of a panda’s diet, bamboo is the central theme here. Openings in the roof will even allow the fast-growing grass to shoot up into the sky.

The distinctive Chinese Pavilion is also slowly taking shape. The large red foundation pillars are already in place, and the roof will be finished soon. The Pavilion has an area of around 89 m² and is 16.5 metres high, putting it on a level with the tops of the surrounding oak trees.
