Tips and tricks at the petting zoo
Feed the goats, pet the goats – no problems!
But then they can sometimes get pushy, especially when the weather is not so fine and you’re virtually alone at the petting zoo.
What helps
- Take food from the machines in front of the petting zoo.
- Let grownups hold the food – even the oldest billy goat has to see that they are bigger.
- Push the goats away, BUT: never hold them by the horns! This is the ultimate fighting challenge to goats and sheep.
Geese up close!
These two are really great because they are doing the right thing! Daddy and baby are keeping completely calm because you shouldn’t chase geese! They can give you a good nip with their beaks and then twist them – for nice big bruises …
Parents & kids
You should never try to separate mothers from their young. The mother animal will then panic – not because of you, but their child. You see, there is not much difference between goat mothers and your parents!
Stretch your fingers!
Make sure to look closely at the girls’ fingers! They’d be best keeping them a little more straight if they’re not to complain afterwards when the donkey nips them by accident …
These aren’t here,
these are only in the Predator House and at the Infomobile. Otherwise they would eat you, the keepers, and every pet and domestic animal they can find.
Petting zoo opening hours
- von 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Please bear in mind that on days with a great many visitors the animals can also return earlier to their housings. Yet you can still see and touch them.
Please feed the animals only from the machines! This is the only way the keepers can keep the daily amounts under control. If every one of our three million visitors each year was to bring along “a titbit from home” our animals will grow fat and ill and die an early death.
Where can I change my baby’s nappy?
- At the Birdhouse, directly opposite
